Day 8

We set the alarm for 7:30 today as we needed a little extra time to shower and pack all our bags

We met at 9am for breakfast and as ever it was delicious - just have to hope the other hotels live up to this one

At 10:45 we set off in the pouring rain to the train station

Luckily most of the journey was downhill so it didn’t take too long

Our 11:46 train was already on the board and by the time we got to the platform it was pulling in to the station

We had to wait 15 mins or so for the train to be cleaned then we got on and luckily were able to put our large suitcases in the baggage area

A ticket collector came down the train but didn’t ask for our tickets, just checked on her phone for all the occupied seats and if she had someone there on her phone, that was good enough

At just gone 12:30 we walked to the buffet car and bought lunch and drinks

I raised a can of beer (appropriately) to Dad - can’t believe it’s been 10 years

At 13:25 there was an announcement saying, we have now crossed the border - welcome to Sweden

No checks, no passports, nothing - how very civilised…

Almost immediately Vodafone welcomed us too - who knew their tracking skill were so accurate

At about 3pm the announced started talking in Swedish for a good 5 minutes - when she translated it to English, she just said we were 15 minutes late

I want to know what she’s not telling us…

At the end of a journey where the views were amazing, we arrived in Stockholm about 5:30pm

Of course the views didn’t hold all our attention

The hotel was only about a 10 minutes walk but that was made harder by having to lift the suitcases down a load of stairs

The hotel looked lovely in an old fashioned way and the restaurant was packed despite it being early

The room keys are actual keys and you even need to use them to make the lifts work!!

The room is bigger than Oslo with a fridge and although it’s here, we won’t use it, a microwave

Our first port of call was to get water etc for the rooms so we quickly went to the local 7/11 for supplies

Then we went out for food

We ended up at a place called the Laughing Duck, but not before we saw this

The laughing duck had a good cheeseburger for Kieren, schnitzels for the ladies and I had to have the Swedish meatballs - lovely

It’s been a tiring day so Hattie and Kieren retired for the night while Joss and I went on to another bar for a couple of beers

On the way back to the hotel we bought muffins - I felt like my meal deserved a pudding (apart from me)

Sensible choices will mean we are raring to go tomorrow
