Day 4
We met up again at 8:30 and had another lovely breakfast
Today was boat-trip around the harbour/fjord day so at 10:15 we headed off to the water
To be honest, I didn’t realise quite how close we were to the water
It was a “bracing” Norwegian day but we were fully prepared with our big coats
Kieren even had time to ring the massive bell on the waterfront by operating a foot pressed pedal - he was very pleased with himself
The boat left at exactly 11 and after I’d had a fruitless argument with Hattie that she denied the windows were tinted I went outside and took many, many pictures
Far more than you see here but I don’t think scenery pictures ever really capture what you can see with the naked eye
Another reason for being outside was a very annoying small child constantly crying although the blame lies fairly and squarely with the parents…
The trip ended at 1pm and got off to buy some souvenirs and some supplies for the rooms before heading off to lunch. We also bought actual physical tram tickets for the afternoon so we’d have something to remember
We did have our eye on a cafe but the menu was a bit limited for Kieren so we ended up stumbling upon a food hall
Here you could order (via a qr code) different cuisines and they would text you when they were ready
Hattie went for Mexican which, in fairness, looked a tad small whereas Joss and Kieren went for Italian and the portion sizes were massive
I went for Indian and it was delicious
After lunch we used the tram tickets to go to a sports’ shop and I bought a Lyn FC home shirt
While we were waiting for the tram a Spanish couple came up to me and I guessed they were asking about the number 12 tram
I looked up and it was on the other side of the road so I pointed at it, said “twelve” in a loud English voice and added a Gallic shrug to seal the deal - that seemed good enough for them and off they trot
After that we took another tram and went to the geekiest shop I’ve even been to - full of dungeons and dragons people and Harry Potter stuff
Hattie was in heaven and bought almost everything Harry Potter related
By now we were tired so stopped off at a bar for a couple of drinks
We then did some souvenir hunting and I think I found the vikings Joss had been looking for
After that we headed back to the hotel to rest up before dinner but Joss had the genius idea to go drinking while the others rested
I don’t need a second invitation so we scooted off to a bar called the Last Train
Very nice, as was the beer - the view outside was less nice
Once we’d finished we met up with Kieren and Hattie for dinner
Kieren had cheeseburger, Hattie had fish and chips whereas Joss and I had bangers and mash
They were a revelation and if you notice the sausages had cut marks in them as a “serving suggestion” - hence forward I will expect all my dinners to have such guidance
When we arrived I’d confirmed that they’d be showing the Bournemouth game tonight so was dismayed when la liga was put on
I rushed down to the bar to quietly argue my case and they changed it over
For 75 minutes, despite being the better side I wish they hadn’t, especially when Fulham went 0-1 up
But, much to my surprise, we stormed back to win 3-1
An even more enjoyable result as we’d had to move to another table for the second half as a massive Norwegian decided to stick his head in the way of the screen, just like Kieren did at Heathrow
Also it moved us from another table of alpha male Norwegians who were being cocks so it was a good decision all round
When Fulham scored one bloke started cheering like mad saying he was from London
He was nowhere to be found once the final whistle blew….funny that….
