Day 3
So, overnight I discovered that Norway have got 2 things so right
Firstly, in the bathroom they have a tiny light that guides you to the loo so you don’t have to put the big light on
Essential when you get to my age
Secondly, on a double bed, you get 2 single duvets, so you never wake up freezing cold while your partner snores on, all cocooned in warmth
Genius
We all met up at 8:30 and went down to the second floor for breakfast
A combination of full English, continental, cereal, pastries and fruits were on offer and we really did our best to bankrupt the hotel
Hattie was wearing her Dortmund hoodie and one guy asked if she’d been - he was born there!!
We had a day of shopping ahead of us and Joss knew exactly where to go
A series of tapping on the phone from Joss and Hattie meant that we went off on a 20 minute walk to what we thought was a shopping centre
We walked through some lovely parks
We also saw an interesting proposal
And this very poor effort to enhance the reputation of the spray can place
I mean, I love slags as much as the next man but at least put some creativity into it
Finally we finished up at a nail bar with no other shops nearby - bugger
We sat down and had a coffee to reassess and Joss found another shopping place just 30 minutes away by bus
It did have a few shops but the cherry on the cake (for Kieren) was that it had a Norwegian McDonald’s
After that we decided to get a tram back to the hotel to drop our stuff off and then explore more locally
As the tram meandered through the streets, it went past a massive shopping mall and hundreds of shops
I googled how far away we were from the hotel - 250m
So basically, rather than getting a bus and a tram, if we’d just turned left, it was all there ….
Still, we consoled ourselves in a bar
We did a bit more shopping before walking back, via another bar
Hattie was a slow drinker so I helped by offering for Joss and Kieren to go ahead while Hattie finished her beer ( and I had another)
Selfless I am
On the way back (finally) we spotted a souvenir shop and I made my first purchases - never shop after drinking, I should know better….
No this wasn’t entirely necessary but we both enjoyed it
For the evening we went for Italian food which was lovely
I had a pizza, Kieren had spaghetti with meatballs and Hattie had carbonara
Joss had pasta with reindeer meat which she kindly let me try - more like beef than venison but very tasty
Joss and Kieren then went back to the hotel whilst Hattie and I went back to the sports’ bar from yesterday and had 1 more drink whilst watching the Villa game
Yesterday it was packed but today it was empty - Norway must be big lovers of PSG and/or Barcelona
That’s it for today - we need our sea legs for tomorrow….
