Day 2
The alarm was set for 8am but it never had the chance to chirp its merry tune as Joss burst out of the shower at 7:45 and promptly put all the lights on
We are up then
We weren’t due to meet up with the kids until 9:15 so it was a very leisurely start from me - the beers from last night poking a reminder that I’m not a young man
Kieren banged on the door “Sheldon style” at exactly 9:15 and were off to the pod
We did have a little “trouble” with the gate to get to the pod but once through we made the tactical decision to go in 2 separate pods
I couldn’t do with a computer telling us we are too fat to fit in so took that off the table
Once arrived at Terminal 5 we took the train to Terminal 3 and breezed through both check in and security in record time
Now for breakfast
Is was a solid 8.5 for me - would have been higher if there were fried eggs but the pastries were lovely too.
Kieren confidently strode off and came back with a cooked breakfast
He’d forgotten cutlery, however, so went off and returned clutching knife, fork and a piece of toast with butter - that’s better
Joss broke first and had a Prosecco and was joined by Hattie - I had a couple of “diet cokes” and the time quickly went by
When the gate was announced they said because of IT issues, not all bags could be stored overhead - IT issues???? They are making that up
Once seated Kieren settled down to his downloaded programmes on his iPad, whilst loudly telling us all that you weren’t allowed to use the internet - all right all right….
The flight took off 35 minutes late which does make me worry about our next holiday which has only a 55 minute transfer time but I guess that’s a worry for another day….
Food was served and at the beginning it was a choice between shepherds’ pie, smoked salmon and gnocchi
By the time they got to us only the shepherds’ pie was left which was convenient as it’s the one Kieren and I wanted
I will say it was a tad salty but the chocolate pudding was nice, as was the red wine
I had things to listen to on the plane but I just couldn’t bring myself to bother - instead I just sat in a half-doze until we fiiiiiiinallllly touched down
Then we had the long walk to passport control because we are no longer part of the EU &@&^#%%# but at least the guy on passport control had a happy demeanour
Our bags arrived (fairly) promptly and we bought tickets to catch the train to the centre of Oslo
Unfortunately our luggage wouldn’t fit in the baggage area so I had to stand up to stop them marauding around the train
Once alighted, we walked through the drizzle for about 20 minutes to our very flash looking hotel
At this point I’d usually show pictures of the room but as we trashed it almost immediately here’s a picture of the lift in the foyer
Joss and I then went out briefly to get bottled water etc and upon our return the receptionist apologised and said he’d forgotten to take payment
Payment for what, I asked
For the stay
No no, we’ve paid
We don’t have that on our records, sir
Turns out Sunvil had “forgotten” to pay them but that was half an hour I wish I hadn’t had
A quick shower after that and as we were tired we just went next door to the Scotsman for some dinner
Ok it wasn’t the only reason - they were also showing the champions’ league games
The food was nice but was spoiled by the fact the that whole pub seemed to be cheering for both Barcelona AND PSG
I know Norway have no decent sides but you can’t cheer for both sides in one game!!!!
It just put me off my food - not enough to leave it but you know …..
Anyhow, again Kieren had had enough by half time (the hour difference making it all the more difficult to justify) so he and Joss went back to the hotel while Hattie and I finished the footy
Probably just as well because Joss was livid that some lads had chosen to sit between us and the TV and at one point she was threatening to sit in front of them to see how they liked it…
Looking forward to our first full day in Oslo tomorrow
