Day 18
Another 9am meet up and we were banished to the bottom tier
Yes they have their own food station but it wasn’t as good as the upper level so I made multiple trips up and down the stairs to ensure I didn’t miss out
We then went back to the rooms, fully packed and unbelievably all bags came in under 23kg
Then, just as we were to leave, Kieren rushed into the loo and violently threw up
This went on for several minutes and when he emerged he was white as a sheet
We rested him a while until some colour came back and then we were off
Someone had a recollection that the train station had a lift to avoid going down the masses of stairs to the metro but alas there was none and so we ended up doing a 500m detour only to be back at the stairs anyway - less than ideal
We got the suitcases down eventually and waited for our metro
Just as it came, Kieren started being sick into a plastic bag
Going from cold to hot wasn’t helping him
We missed the next couple of trains before I realised I hadn’t even bought tickets for the ride, so Kieren’s unfortunate illness actually saved us
We took the 2 trains needed with luckily no repercussions
The train goes directly to the airport and we were through check in and security in no time
We set off for the lounge but it was really small and so spaces were a premium and the range of food limited
We did manage to find Kieren somewhere to lie down and he lapped up the attention
Every now and then he’d wave at us or do a huge stretch
When it was time to go to the gate we went through quickly and Kieren tried to go to sleep again
We left about 15 minutes late
Kieren didn’t want any food but did take a few sips of Pepsi
I had to pick the vegetarian “afternoon tea” and I’ve no idea what was in any of the sandwiches but they all tasted nice
The scone and the Victoria sponge were better though
We managed to make up time lost travelling to Heathrow and had the bonus that posted of landing at terminal 2 as predicted, we went to terminal 5 - which is where we’d parked the car - bonus
We scooted through security because Kieren was wearing his sunflower lanyard given to us in Copenhagen and our bags came off promptly
Because we were business I got a text every time one of our suitcases hit the conveyer belt - snazzy
Then all that was left was to put everyone and everything (including a rejuvenated Kieren) into the car and drive home
Can’t wait for a decent sleep in my own bed!!!
