Day 17
Our luck finally ran out. Both the upper and lower decks for eating breakfast were completely full although doing the search meant I finally saw a food station at the lower level
We had to make do with tables more suited to a leisurely coffee as I ate my cereal with my knees round my ears on the low chairs
We first went to the souvenir shop next to the hotel then onto the bookshop where we’d been before so that Hattie could get more Harry Potter books as she’d found out that her suitcase wasn’t as heavy as we’d all thought
They had all the books she wanted except book 5 so we went on search for it, taking in as many souvenir shops as we could
When we got to the bookshop, it had a Harry Potter floor where as well as books it had a million pieces of merchandise, which made Hattie very poor
She was still happy though
Kieren then bought his 6th Gabby’s Doll House toy - I do hope they all get on
I wanted to say a fond farewell to the Dubliner so we had lunch there - I had the pasta and the girls had fish and chips - Kieren went for the old faithful - burger
After that we walked back to the metro station and decided to have an “outside” beer at a pop up station on the way
The best bit about it? The also had a pop up toilet so you really felt at ease with nature as you had a wee……
I did a little heel kick as I approached them and as Kieren came with me he did a little jump too - he must have thought it was part of the ceremony 🤣
Joss and Hattie then went into another shop and I asked Kieren whether he wanted to go in, or go to a new pub
He replied as men have done throughout the ages and said “new pub” so we went to the Proud Mary and waited for the girls
They tracked us down and after a drink we took the metro back to the hotel but between us and it there was the OL bar, which we accidentally fell into
A very pleasant time was had there before returning to the hotel (via the 7/11 and the close souvenir shop) so we could pack and weigh our suitcases
With a bit of swapping about we all made it under the 23kg limit so should be ok for tomorrow
We all met up at 7pm with the intention of going to The Globe one stop away on the train as we’d been reminiscing about the sausages and mash in Oslo and this pub had it on the menu
When we got there, they were holding a quiz night and it was absolutely rammed - not a space to be had
Bugger
With that we took the metro back and ended up at a pizza place
The food was nice but we were all flagging and yawning - all this walking, drinking and eating on top of less than required sleep and we were all ready to hit the hay
Thoughts on the holiday in Scandinavia
1 Oslo was the most expensive, Stockholm the least
2 I didn’t think I could ever see Hattie happier than when she realised both international matches we saw were reffed by English refs, but the Harry Potter store proved me wrong
3 Oslo is very laid back, Stockholm the most busy
4 In all 3 cities everyone speaks better English than me
5 The transport systems in all 3 are interconnected, regular and clean
6 All 3 cities feel completely safe and are beautiful to walk around
7 Copenhagen should only have 1 mermaid
8 The UK needs more sports’ bars
9 The creaky floorboards in the Copenhagen hotel need looking at as they squeak more now than at the start of our stay 👀
10 How a hotel in Denmark can get away with serving breakfast with no bacon is frankly criminal….
11 The thrill of having your metro tickets checked and they were ok when you were unsure about the app is almost unrivalled
12 I can’t imagine having another Carlsberg for a very long time
