Day 13
What a shock to the system a 6am alarm makes!!!
Even more scary when I check google maps and can’t see the train we are due to take to Gothenburg but there is one 15 minutes earlier..
Gulp
Right - everyone get a move on!!!
We arrive at the station to find that google maps lied and we still had 45 minutes before it left
Ah well better early than late I say
The carriage we had to go on was sparsely inhabited but annoyingly enough, they were all around us
This included a guy that decided playing videos on his phone full blast was an appropriate way to fill the next 3 and a half hours
After Joss’ icy stare had done no good, I tapped this man and asked if he could use the headphones that were hanging loosely around his neck
He stared at me, his expression unchanging as he merely turned the volume down to an inaudible level
Then we were all served breakfast which came in a snazzy box and had cheese and egg and yoghurt and juice in it, along with a bread roll
A proper bonus with the free tea/coffee
Then the guy I’d spoken with got up and moved to another seat - that’s a win for me I reckon..
I tried to take some pics of the lovely views but the windows were so dirty none of them came out properly
I was surprised that no one else was that bothered - especially Kieren
So we arrived at Gothenburg at 11:40
Our train was due at 12:40 but there was meant to be another at the same platform at 12:20
That time came and went and as a train rolled in, the sign changed from 12:20 to 12:40 - the one we wanted
But what if this was still the 12:20???
People started pouring on
What do I do said Hattie
I don’t know
I need to go now if we are to get on
I still don’t know
It got tense until I saw a guard and asked him and basically they had merged the 12:20 with the 12:40
Bugger
We charged on
We didn’t have allocated seating on this train so the kids “ran” forward with the rucksacks to get seats while Joss and I threw the suitcases in the storage area
Phew
I’ve never known a train to stop so often and be so rickety
No wonder the journey took another nearly 4 hours to get to Copenhagen
What was worse was that a guard came round inspecting tickets and immediately before us he’d told a bloke, in no uncertain terms that he only had a screenshot of a ticket so he had to get off
Our tickets were on our phones too - I can still feel the sweat pouring from my forehead before he said, as nice as pie, that our tickets were ok
The weather was good when we arrived and we were only 5 minutes away from the hotel so that was a blessing
We didn’t stay long though as we were quickly off to the local Maccies before going off to watch Denmark v Greece
The stadium was a metro ride away and despite Hattie not being able to buy the shirt she wanted, we did console ourselves with a couple of drinks outside
Once inside, the stadium was impressive, as were the offerings
This was chalk and cheese with Sweden
Denmark got the crowd going before the game with lights and music and the crowd responded so enthusiastically
No one was sat next to me at the end of the row so we moved along one so Joss had a bit of space
This left me with this view of the goal to my left and in a magnificent 3-1 win for Denmark - guess which end all the goals went in
Good job I could still bob and weave between the poles….
The whole game was excellent - players, crowd everything - and this extended to the ease in which we got out and boarded the metro home
A superb start to the last leg of our holiday
